Advanced Skill Builders: Grammar
Advanced students generally have a good grasp of grammar, with only the fossilized mistake appearing as a hindrance to communication. However, for added clarity, meaning, and even nuance, low-frequency language must be used. Mixed conditionals, the subjunctive mood, cleft sentences... Each can alter the meaning and emphasis in communication, and misunderstanding can lead to communication breakdowns. It's important to stress these points, especially if students believe that the grammar skills presently attained suffice.
